Raspberry Pi OS... which is based on Debian Linux.
Easy to set up and use.
There is a Raspberry Pi image out there called "Ham Pi".
It has a ton of Amateur Radio software pre-installed, including Chirp.
I have a separate Raspberry Pi set up with that I use in the shack.

The Chirp source code is available on GIT.
Download and take a look at it.
You'll find all sorts of neat info buried within it.
I did this to create my own tool to program/clone radios with an Arduino.

Did you download from the problem radio first, update the image and then
(re-)upload ?
