Mike, the original question was regarding chirp, specifically if anyone
could see any reason for the oddity I'm seeing.
Your suggestion that I haven't investigated outside of Chirp is almost
insulting. Have yourself a great day.

Greg,
Here is a good discussion about the various fields in the programming

Maybe because this is a Chirp mailing list and *not* a UV5R mailing list.

When you say there is no voice on the carrier when using a repeater, are to

If you are listening to your repeaters output, you are probably experiencing

Yes, Mine only does the carrier with no modulation, unless I plug in the
speaker-mic.
So without the speaker-mic, it's just the same issue you describe.
I've tried repeated plug-ins to unstick it, but I guess I'm stuck with only
using a speaker-mic on that radio.
I don't know if an earphone would
No, I never have - at least not that I recall. You said that it will

there's no modulation. If your experience is similar, I might try
plugging in one of the ones I have. I haven't because I heard reports

Hi, I'm a new amateur so sorry if this seems a dumb question.
For repeaters with only an uplink tone, one simply selects "Tone" in
Tone mode and selects the single tone to get into the repeater.
Some repeaters list both an uplink and a downlink tone. In this case,
which Tone mode option do I
Haha thanks! I was wondering cause I was making a "custom" Roger beep but
it requires the Roger beep to be on to sound neat haha.

Hi Al,
Did you ever plug in a speaker microphone?
My UV5R is known for sticking inside after plugging in a speaker-mic and it
will only transmit the microphone via the speaker microphone now.
I don't want to open it up to try and unstick the contact inside the jack.
Sounds like the trouble you are

Is there anyway to put a Roger beep on certain channels but not others on
the Baofeng UV-5R? I've looked and looked and only seen how to put a PTT-ID
on per channel. Could there be a way to do it through developer options?
Any help is appreciated,

Do you have CTCSS tones set on the receive side.
If so, remove them.
It’s possible the repeaters aren’t sending a tone back to you..

Attached is the image of my 'working' radio - problem is, it's not
working right. This an older Baofeng UV-82L much prior to the recent
FCC rule changes. I am both a licensed ham (KG5HEJ) and GMRS (WQYM836)
operator. Though I recognize the legalities of using this radio, it's
use in the GMRS
