Ah, sorry, I didn't understand you correctyly. We did use the
librbd::Image::aio_discard method to resize the image from 4MB to 1MB.

Oh, sorry again. We didn't resize the image, just "aio_discard"ed the data from
the offset 1048576 to the end of the rbd image.

Try running your initial test in reverse. Copy or of fuse first and then
the kennel driver. I think you'll find that you are dealing with more than
1 later of caching affecting this test. Caching on the OSD and kernel
caching primarily.

I tried Fedora 25 (kernel 4.10.8-200.fc25.x86_64) with the kernel driver
and it works great. Perhaps you're on to something with the kernel version.
I didn't realize how far behind 16.04 was on this.
I will give upgrading Ubuntu 16.04 to a newer kernel the old college try.
Thanks.

Hi KK,
Thank you for your comment, we did set “ceph osd set noout” before shutdown OSD
daemons.
Thanks,
Tim

Hello,
Thank you for the steps. We’ll follow these steps to stop/start our cluster.
Thanks,
Tim
