Hi all - looks like I have a kernel dieing on me.
This is an AMD 6400+ with 4 GIG ram. I am using ext3 and software raid on 500G
drives. (2) of them.
I have an external 1T usb disk connected for backup.
This is running 2.6.23.9 as I wanted to use kvm-amd.
It has died on me twice. Funny thing is
I changed my X driver from nvidia to xv.
Now when I vncviewer into my machine it KILLS my current logged in user.
When I try to login it accepts my login looks like its going to do it then
kills
my X windows screen. When I reconnect I'm back at a login again.

Seems as though running gimp as root does not
bring up any dialog boxes. I was running "gimp &" from a console window
I have a device on my network that is not DHCP and I dont know the IP

and it has not method of finding it or changing it unless you know the

I was running centos 4.5 with not issues on my main box.
I updated to (fresh install) to 5.1 Things run fine except I use vnc alot
from home to connect back into my machine and sometimes on connecting
it is crashing the vnc session and then it kills my entire login session.

I have noticed that xloadimage rpm is not in centos 5.1
I use the command "xview -identity" to get the size of gifs, jpgs, and pngs.
xview is part of the xloadimage package.
The command "file filename" also reports sizes for gifs and pngs BUT not
for jpgs.

I am trying to grab the mac address for eth0 on centos 5.1 with
ifconfig | grep eth0 | cut -d ' ' -f 5 and I dont get anything.

and command1 runs until it is kill'ed by some other process. Sometimes

(chmod +s myexe)
doing a chmod root myexe and chown root myexe does NOT affect the +s
setting.
However, on centos 5 this is not the case.

Installed it:

When doing software RAID-1 installs on reboot (just after install)

I am using centos 5 x86_64 AMD64 X2 4200+. I am current on yum update.
My machine has two ethernet cards. e1000 (eth0) and forcedeth (eth1)
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# more /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 e1000
alias eth1 forcedeth
sometimes on boot the forcedeth driver thinks it is eth0:

Is there a method to control module load order?
I want to ensure that the e1000 module loads before the forcedeth driver.

The following might work in /etc/modprobe.conf:
install forcedeth /sbin/modprobe e1000; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-instal
When the you select an X11 virtual screen (1 of 4) with the mouse on
default centos 5
what command gets executed to show screen 1, screen 2 etc...
Basically, I want to have a command or know the command
to execute to show the desired virtual X11 screen.

In older version of centos there was cpuspeed -d running that controlled
current speed.
In centos 5 it is set for on demand and cpuspeed is not running.
I can startup cpuspeed and send it a signal SIGUSR1 to go full speed.
This works.
