hangs, i don't get any errors it just sits there. I have to manually kill
the yum process to resolve this. This does not happen with any other package
add/removals. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I tried exporting an http_proxy environment variable, it still
doesn't like the proxy. Adding the options to yum.conf isn't happy either. I
am open to suggestions, what authentication scheme is yum communicating to

Yeah, I had asked yum to install nvidia-x11-drv, then later when I
explicitly tried to install dkms-nvidia-x11-drv it had already
auto-updated and yum reported nothing to do. Maybe not completely
idiot-proof, but the score is yum 1 idiots
ilar hits when I leave out the matlab path.
Solution:
mount -o remount -o exec /dev/scd0
(scd0 is the drive where the DVD is inserted.)
