The subject says it all. On my "server" machine in the local LAN
(192.168.1.252 in a 192.168.1.0/24 network), I setup Bind. I installed
the 'caching-nameserver' package, which provides a set of configuration
files for Bind so it can be used as a caching nameserver out of the box.

computer to a flash drive, they appear to copy, but when I try to use
the files I find that only the name was copied (file size of 0). When
I copy the same files to the same flash drive, from the terminal,
everything seems to work.

If you are not hung up on the device name changing, i.e. the device must
ALWAYS be /dev/sda1 or /dev/hda1, you can use LABEL=? or UUID=? in
/etc/fstab, or use LVM to create logical volumes that do not depend on
the actual device name.

That indicates that you unplugged the drive without first unmounting
