Hello, has something changed in CentOS 5 logging behavior? I get no entries in /var/log/messages when I start or stop services (httpd, ssh, etc.). My /etc/syslog.conf is the installation default: # Log all kernel messages to the console. # Logging much else clutters up the screen. #kern.*

your mahcine is fine. swap is at zero. You have most of your ram being used by cache. This is also normal for a linux machine. If an application needs to ram being used for file caching the kernel will clear out that portion of cache and the program will have access to it. Robert Moskowi

About 10 seconds after I started this thread, I remembered a long discussion about RAID, SATA, etc., 2 or 3 months ago. I think that Feizhou (?) strongly recommended going with Software RAID in CentOS. I will search for that and do a lot of reading. RAID 1 for mirroring is what I want. Lanny
