I have a DVD R/W drive that plugs into a USB port, but I always copy the ISO image to a USB memory stick and it works just fine. You may have to fiddle with BIOS to boot to an external USB device, but I have never had a problem. I have Fedora 24 and 25, as well as CentOS 6.X and 7.X on USB sti
