That doesn't mean they are necessary updates for your system. If you don't
have these packages installed they won't be updated ...

What about /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.rep
When I run yum -y update I see that:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/yum.repos.d]# yum -y update
Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration
