Ok, it took a while, but I finally filed a bug against binutils and included the patch I've been using to make it work. I hadn't realized this, but the same bug exists in mingw32-binutils on Debian and Ubuntu, and of course the same patch fixes it. http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1
