I recently purchased an Open Office 2.1 cd from ebay.
While trying to download the program, my son discovered that the same
or newer program can be downloaded from the internet for free.
The ebay member I purchased the cd from is globalcirculations. He has
an ebay store called

if I could get a few copys of open office. One for me and others for my

Yes this is legal. If anyone wants to 'sell' free open source
software (as is OOo) they can.
In the meantime, I would encourage your son to download (if possible)
the new 2.3 version available on the Internet. It has many new
features.
