The project is part of the extensive effort of our department towards
understanding the structural basis of the spliceosome function. The

You dont say what the translation vector is, or the spacegroup, but if
one of the translation components is fractional, eg 0.5 with an
orthogonal SG or 0.333 in a trigonal, then it can generate aparent
absences along an axis, and it s easy to mis-assign the spacegroup; eg

Dear all,
we have crystals that nicely diffract to 1.7 A (sharp spots), with the
following characteristics and findings:
a) the data appear as P212121, with axes 117.2 133.6 138.3 (if reduced
in P1, the largest deviation of any angle from 90° is 0.2°); the odd

You dont mention any twinning tests?
The L test, now part of the newest ctruncate is pretty good at detecting
twinning even with the NCS translation.
And SFCHECK does a good job too.
If these are inconclusive I would not assume twinning.
Usually you can get solutions for MR with twinned data,
Hi Citizens:
Today I decided to try ccp4Mg, to see what I have been missing. I
downloaded the CCP4 website precompiled version.

When the program starts up, a window appears, and it is flickering at
a rapid frequency. I closed it before I had a seizure. I had to quit

sorry, I forgot to mention that the twinning tests do not show twinning.
Rather, the actual curves in the "Cumulative distribution of H" lie on
the "not-twinned-at-all" (i.e opposite) side of the alpha=0 curve (see
plot below). But
Dear Bill,
CCP4MG is undergoing a major rewrite; this is mostly complete. The
new version does not use X11 at all and should be generally much more
stable. It is not yet hosted on the CCP4 site - my fault, sorry. You can
get it from:
http://www.ysbl.york.ac.uk/~ccp4mg/download2/
Best Wishe
Dear Bill,
I can confirm what Stuart says: independent of Grateful Dead, the new
QtMG from the download2-site is not flickering at all.
Best regards,
Dirk.

Dear all, deadline for submission of proposals for beamtime at BM14 (ESRF)
for the third run of 2009 [June/July] is wednesday, the 6th May 2009.
Beamline proposals can be submitted on-line from the BM14 webpages at

PLEASE remember this call is distinct from ESRF proposal call
Dear all,
Can any one comment on setting up restraints for refinement against
merohedrally twinned data in Refmac?
I find that refinement distorts the geometry (90% allowed in the Ram.

or 0.1 seems not to improve the ref

Well - there s nothing there to indicate twinning, although as you say
it is hard to be sure with a pseudo translation...
The contrast doesnt look brilliant, but then it often doesnt..
What about phaser? If it gives a contrast between one spacegroup and the
others I always think that is a good
Dear sir:
I got a very large model with 56 NCS groups working on. So I decided to upgrade
our old version of CCP4, which is 4.6.0. The one I installed is the CCP4 4.6.1
executable for Linux without coot and Databases for Balbes. The installation
appeared to be successful. I can start ccp4 GUI an
