I just had my first ever Oriole at my feeders here in Dryden. Just as I
was taking photos of the Oriole an Indigo Bunting showed up for a few
nice photos.
I just did better in five minuted that Meg and I did all afternoon at MNWR.

I woke up this morning to a flock of northern Cardinals at my feeder‘s
There were approximately 15 to 20 both male and female, it was hard to tell
they keep chasing each other all over the place
I have never had this many Cardinals at one time anyone else seen this?
Any ideas of what’s going on?

First it was statues, then military bases.
Now the target of the woke crowd are birds.
The American Ornithological Society is thinking about changing the names of
some birds because they have a past that some call racist.
Common people there is no room for political correctness in bird watching,
I am planning a birding trip to the Midwest grasslands for next June.
Already I am finding hotel rooms sold out for that period.
Does anyone have experience or advice on birding the prairie grasslands?
Also anyone who might want to go along on this trip please let me know.

acceptable choices. I sincerely doubt that few of us (birders) would object
to a birder in a wheelchair, either pushed or electric. But what if you
could walk, just not very far or very long?

I plan on stopping at Ferd's Bog, but I thought that a dinner in Old
Forge would be a good place to stop and take a break. There are also
some good motels in Tupper Lake and closer to Bloomingdale.
I guess we could see how many might want to stay overnight I have stayed
at Shaheen's Motel and it

There were some recent sightings of Spruce Grouse by DEC Park Rangers,
so cross your fingers.

As I crept up to the fence in a neighbors back yard to photograph the
Snow Geese in the field on Simms Hill Rd. here in Dryden I spooked a
couple of Canadian Geese next to the fence. They spooked the entire
flock, which I would estimate at around 500 mixed Canadas and Snows.
They flew West, not
According to eBird they / it are being seen on the western shore of Lake
Michigan North of Milwaukee. It looks like the sightings have been
consistent.

For the past two days I have had a small swarm of what appear to be
small Honeybees at my platform feeder.
The birds don't seem to mind and I haven't seen any interaction between
them. Didn't know bees liked bird seed.

The GreatHornedOwl that was frequenting the Heil School Rd was found on the
road this morning by myself , Chris Wood and others. In a weakened
condition with an injury to the left eye, the owl was captured by Ann and
transported to the Vet School wildlife clinic.

Having seen this bird yesterday I can well understand why the
misdentification. When looking through a 600mm camera lens from a
distance it did seem to have the markings of a Snowy. It was only after
seeing it through a scope did I see the red tail and head. Without

First , Happy thanksgiving to every one.
I am thinking of taking a trip to Conowingo MD to see the Bald Eagles
who come by the hundreds to fish at the dam there, also there are
thousands of Gulls.
It is a 4 1/2 hour trip one way and will be a long day, leaving at 6:00
AM and returning that eve
Meg just reported that a large flock of Snow Buntings are in the fields
at the bottom of Simms Hill Rd. in Dryden.
Which is great for me, I can watch them from my living room window with
out risking frostbite.

This morning at my feeders I saw two of the smallest birds I have ever
seen. They were scarcely larger than the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that I
have.
They were not hummingbirds but looked like miniature wrens, about half the
size of the Carolina Wrens that frequent the feeders.

I was recently asked by a new birder and photographer about "when is a
wildlife photo not a wildlife photo?"
She asked if a photo taken at a zoo of a bird was really a wildlife photo?

Meg and I went to Hawthorne orchard today. We didn't see much as we
weren't sure where to go exactly. We walked along the recreation way and
took a dirt path that came out behind the polo barns.
Can someone give us a little more info on this site?
We did come up with a mystery bird which I wil
Meg and I checked it out around 11:00 and found 2 Prothonotary
Warblers, 2 Cerulean Warblers and a Yellow-throated Vireo.

I just discovered a Cedar Waxwing nest in my Russian Olive trees with a
half dozen eggs. The mom is not happy with the lawn mower, but didn't
fly away. Great opportunity to photograph the young ones growing up.
Luckily the nest is in an easily viewable position once you know where
to look.

she could care less that I was looking at her babies. From my
viewpoint I am able to photograph the nest with out getting too close,
so I will keep a photo record. I will keep checking every three days or
so and report.

What it really boils down to is how accurate you want to get. I
f you start at the extreme 1 second is approximately 90 feet give or
take depending on your location. That means that one minute is roughly
equal to 5,400 feet and one degree 324,000 feet.
So if you take 1/10th of a degree you get
Could someone please tell me where on Turkey Hill Rd. this "barn" is
near where the Shrike has been seen?
It seems that there is more than one barn.

Dave Nutter and I just watched a flock of Horned Larks and at least 3
Longspurs just East of the intersection of Salt Rd. and Elm St. Ext.
I am returning now with fresh camera batteries.

On Lick St. (Summerhill) by the triangular gas pipe on the East side in
the spruce trees. Flock of about 20-30. 10:30 AM
Also if someone finds a Nikon point and shoot camera in that area let me
know, Meg lost her's.

2 Western Griebs, one about 1/4 South and the other about 1/4 mile
North of Myers' Point. The one to the North seemed to not have it's neck
fully extended except when it dove. This one was also heard calling.
Also present were WW Scoter, Red-throated Loons and some Lesser Scoters.
