Stewart Park. After about an hour I saw one, possibly two, flying around and
calling.

I stopped by the Montezuma Wildlife Drive around 4:00 today. The Visitor Center
was the only place there were shorebirds which included Lesser Yellowlegs, many
Killdeer, 2 Dunlin, and 3 Black-bellied Plovers. There was one Snow Goose
there. On the back side of the drive just before the Eagle Sta
Reuben S. called me to report a Cackling Goose at th south east end of
Taughannock State Park.

Please join me for an all day field trip up the lake Saturday, September 7th.
We will meet at the lab parking lot and carpool up the lake. Bring food and

For the past 3-4 days I have had an Indigo Bunting at my feeders. 2 days ago, 2
INBUs were on the feeders. I thought that was really neat. Then today about 15

I have had 16-21 siskins at my feeders for a couple weeks now. It's pretty
cool watching them. They move so quickly, that it is hard to get an

I headed up the lake this afternoon to see the thousands of Snow Geese Bob
mentioned. It was quite a sight! I did see one Osprey near May's Point hovering
over a stream where there were a number of Great Blue Herons.

Gary Kohlenberg and I led a group of nine enthusiastic birders to some
popular birding spots. We first went to Monkey Run South. Highlights were
an Eastern Phoebe, three Wood Ducks flyingin circles trying to land in a
couple trees across the creek from us, an active Belted Kingfisher, a
Golden-crow
Yellow, Yellow-rumpled, and Palm Warblers with a Song Sparrow joining them.

After standing around Van Dyne Spoor Road for close to 7 hours, I got a 10th of
a second look at the bird. I was scanning the cattails with my scope and saw a
yellow and black bird dive into them. I did have a better look at it's head,
but it was still totally anticlimactic. Dave didn't see it,
There is one juvenile Sanderling seen from Salt Point on the rocks next to
the cattails (looking towards Myers) along with 1 Semi-palmated Plover and 3
dozen Killdeer.

Preserve last evening.

I had a super time at the loon watch this morning witnessing the large flights
of loons and visiting with everyone there. Gary and I went around the lake
afterwards, and saw many more loons on the lake. Looks like there will be some
more spectacular flights!

I saw it briefly while on Stevenson Road. The bird has been around Ithaca for
3-4 years or so. One wing has a lot of white on the primaries. The other wing
had less white. It is a really cool bird to see!

junction rte 90 in cedars and hedge row at north end of pasture. Also, 15 House
Finch, 6 Blue Birds, 2 Northern Flickers, Downy Woodpeckers, Mockinbird, etc.

Jay, Judy, and Klaus joined me today for an awesome day of birding. The

I arrived there sometime after 3:00. Dave got there shortly after I did
(unplanned but like minded). Shorebirds included one Dunlin, one Pectoral
Sandpiper, one Lesser Yellowlegs, and at least three Killdeer. Two Wilson's
Snipe were also nearby. The Pectoral Sandpiper and Dunlin stayed close

Today I had three "first of the year" birds at or under my feeders - an Eastern
Towee (1st ever in my yard too!), a Chipping Sparrow at a tray feeder, and a
Field Sparrow (which I saw at the end of the day hanging out with the Towee).

There was a lone Caspian Tern at Myers Point this afternoon. A young Herring
Gull chased it for awhile. The Tern flew towards the back side of Salt Point
out of sight. Hopefully it returned to the spit.
