A friend of mine and I watched quite a few hooded mergansers on a farm pond off
of Route 79 west of Ithaca but still in the town of Ithaca this evening
(private land, I don't want to get more specific than that).
There were probably 18 or 20 total, more males than females and quite a bit of

Mineah/Midline and Pleasant Hollow Rd. on Ringwood Rd. this morning. The

This reminds me, during my Loon Watch this morning I was impressed by about 40
Hooded Mergansers on the Inlet to my north opposite the CU & IC crew
boathouses, but 150 really is a lot! I thought I heard gunfire far to the north
and wondered if the Hooded Mergansers were taking refuge from the la
Saw about 150 Hooded Mergansers at 4:30 pm today on the Cayuga Inlet
between the Marina entrance and the boat houses. Also a single
mockingbird in the brush at the edge of the golf course.

There was a trio of beautiful Hooded Mergansers on Fall Creek near the
suspension bridge at Flat Rock, when we crossed at about 12:45pm after a long
walk. Two males were escorting an elegant female, flashing their hoods in the
sunlight and displaying non-competitively.

In waterway north of lock. Big flock!
