Rick, this is an outstanding demonstration by Frank Rudder .  I would disagree with his polarity effects. His demo was at 3 GHz where polarity is severe but when you come down to the HF ham bands the effect is minimal. At VHF and UHF  the effect as you know is present bu no to the point at 3gHz.
