Whichever version ships in fedora12. I was under the impression that
parted just called out to resize2fs - if I had known that wasn't the
case, I would have done it manually.
Any suggestions on recovering from my situation?

Generally, external tools like resize2fs are better than the file system
code in parted. What version of parted were you using?
