Hopefully this problem of "failure to inform kernel of partition
changes" has been resolved. Only time will tell though because the
problem does not reliably occur on all computer systems.

To my knowledge, the problem of "failed to inform kernel of partition
changes" continues with parted-2.2.
Based on reports from users of GParted, the problem first appeared after
parted-1.8.8 with some development snapshots from git (e.g.,
parted-1.8.8 + development code in git) and parted-1.9
Using 2.2-7 I get the same issue.
