- Exactly which LilyPond version did you use?
- What operating system?
- What text editor did you use.
- Did you make sure to save the files using UTF8 encoding?

In lots of lyrics with German text the special characters are not printed,
even worse: the following characters are also not there.
See the following example:
The composer is Bruno Stürmer,
The lyrics:: Ü -- ber allen
