To state a user opinion (I'm in jazz). It would be very very helpful to

Shouldn't shortening the flag be the desired solution? As we're going to
have plenty of shortened flags available, this may be the most elegant one.

That's a bug in the partcombiner (one of many...). I think a bug report is
suitable so that it doesn't get lost.
