The new strategy in version 2.3.x to automatically switch to
\notes syntax causes problems in examples like
\version "2.2.6"
\score{
\context Voice = a \notes \relative c' {c d e f}
}
since the name used for the Voice context happens to be a note name.
Maybe it's easy to add convert-ly rule that
