Should be `pairing characters', of course.

Yes it is; AFAIC partcombining is necessary for setting hymns. This
has just not been implemented yet in the new (v2.2) partcombiner.

Well, I don't object to your simple implementation, I just suggest
that a warning should be added to the docs that paired characters
should be avoided.

Yes Mats, you're absolutely right. The docs have been updated to reflect
the current behavior of LilyPond. Now my problem is that I would like
to set the number of measures rest below a multimeasure rest from time
to time. Before, Lily would replace the number with the \markup text
and the number

I don't think \partcombine was really intended to be used for SATB. I would
guess that

is really what you want.

Hello!
We would like to offer V_I_A_G_R_A soft tabs,
These pills are just like regular Vìagra but they are specially formulated
to be soft and dissolvable under the tongue. The pill is absorbed at the
mouth and enters the bloodstream directly instead of going through the stomach.

Hi,
while 2.3.20 was OK, 2.3.22 fails like this:
make[4]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/lilypond/Documentation/user'
make[4]: *** No rule to make target `outimages', needed by `local-WWW'. Stop.

Are you saying that the trick used in \verb is bad or just that
we should never mention the example below in any documentation
or that we should use the \verb trick but handle pairing characters
specially?

Don't do that! A much better solution is to avoid pairing characters
(), {}, [] altogether -- or support them in paired only.

Hmm, well the docs at lilypond.org were built on October 10th, the day
before yesterday. My local build of the web was built yesterday, but
perhaps before your change.

I fixed the docs in CVS yesterday!

From the error message, it looks as if you didn't specify the
name of the test.ly file. I hope you tried to run the command
lilypond test.ly
in the directory where you had saved the file.
Also, I recommend to install the latest stable version 2.2.x instead.
