Ok, I installed the sauter-fonts package. Now, *all* markup texts are
so small that at first I mistook the letters for dots. This includes
measure numbers. I did 'texhash' after installation just to be sure.

Yes. As you found out, all page layout stuff has been removed from
latex. I've tried to restored some of it.
