greetings, han-wen!
this looks like a bug to me, but perhaps it's a "feature". :-)
in the fragment attached, SOME of the 32nds near the staff top have
unusually long stems. note that this does not affect 16ths, nor does it
affect pairs of the SAME note. it does get somewhat better as the figure

Oh sh.., now I remember this thread. Anyway, your suggestions didn't help
in my case:

LilyPond is a program that is still evolving fairly quickly.
You must have read the documentation of version 1.8 or 1.9
which does not match the syntax of LilyPond version 1.6.9
that you have installed.
Please read the documentation corresponding to your version or
upgrade your installation.

Hello,
I'm not sure whether this is a bug or an (undocumented) feature.
If a song starts with a rest, the stanza numbers (or name of singers)
are not printed. The following example shows it:
\score {
\addlyrics
\notes \relative c'' \context Voice = duet { \time 3/4
r4 g4
I definitely would call it a bug. A workaround is described in
http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2003-05/msg00216.html
(and the earlier emails of the same thread).

Hello,
just wanted to note that the symlink
stable still points to v1.6, and development to v1.7.
