i've just cross compiled Gnu OS (v 0.2) in an empty ext2 partition in the first slice of the first ide disk, and changed the /boot/server.boot according to mi initial configuration (ext2 filesystem). Are you sure that you cross-compiled GNU 0.2? I.e. the stuff that exists in ftp://ftp.
