Sorry, the patch was incomplete (I could reproduce it on AIX). There
was a silly typo around libexpat checking.
The attached patch (committed) should fix this.

In order to integrate gettext into autotools projects, we suggest
invoking AM_GNU_GETTEXT and AM_GNU_GETTEXT_VERSION, like this:
