It should appear in the next coreutils version, but I'd like to verify
that it works for you. That patch does work on HP-UX 11.11 but as far
as I know nobody has checked it on Fedora Core.

Sorry this waited so long, but I had to work-around the issue and didn't get
back to checking it out.
I checked all the ulimit suggestions and all said unlimited. As I burn DVD iso's
from this machine, I regularly generate > 2GB files with no difficulty.

I don't think it is so remote of a possibility. I have definitely
seen ulimit be unintentionally set forcing this behavior. I think you
made an excellent suggestion!

This sounds like you (or your installer) has built coreutils in
"sm
