Thanks for the report. I think this is more an Emacs issue than AUCTeX
and should be assigned/fixed there.

GNU Emacs 29.2 (build 1, aarch64-apple-darwin21.6.0, NS appkit-2113.60
Version 12.6.6 (Build 21G646)) of 2024-01-18
and auctex produces a compilation error in the file

it just hangs... seems to break down near

Hi there,
When the point is on the first letter of a line inside an indented environment
(e.g., itemize, proof, etc.), running `LaTeX-fill-paragraph` will move the
point to the beginning of the line. Here is a MWE:
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
\begin{itemize}
\item In indented envi
