Did you edit /etc/default/brltty? Not to be a nag but you don't mention
it.
Also, it makes sense that you wouldn't get braille until you've
edited the brltty.conf. And yes, it is the template before you do your
editing of brltty.conf; Ubuntu (at least this version) does not edit it
for you

Well, you're right, I didn't edited that file.
The reason is:
RUN_BRLTTY=yes
But it doesn't have any effect!

I'd be scared to go back to Ubuntu's original brltty. Though the object of
the svn is in /bin instead of /sbin, all the other components in /etc, /lib,
etc. have been changed.

Not exactly. Leaving brltty.conf with everything commented out simply means
that brltty will run using its internal defaults. That means direct
Hi Dave:
I'm not sure if THDZ means Treo in Japanese, but if it does, I never would have
figured that out.
The display has only a USB connector. I don't know if it only emulates a
PowerBraille 40, or if it has its own protocol. It seems like it would have its
own protocol, but the manual isn't
I looked at Aldo's script.txt. He's still putting usb in upper case.
The ps command shows that brltty is running.
A good temporary test is to rename /etc/brltty.conf to something else
(/etc/tempdestroy for example). That way you know it's not getting in the
way. Then restart the system. The -q

That's my error. :-) I was expecting English, so, when I read it quickly, my
brain must've made "corrections" for potentially missing a

Dave, here's the log. I terminated brltty after the log began to repeat.

The log looks good. Brltty is finding the display, recognizing it as a
PoserBraille, and even reporting that it's probably an emulator. So now we have
to dig a little
Dave:
Nothing ever gets written to the display.

Rob,
Do the dots get retracted fully, showing that the display gets power? If
not, I wonder if maybe the braille part is bad although the communications
part responds properly. Have you ever had it working on any system? With my
PAC Mate display the dots all go down when power is applied (befor

Oh yes! I had it working earlier today under Windows. I, like you, am surprised
that nothing happens on the display, since BRLTTY seems happy with it. The
display just continues to show "THDZ 40" as if nothing is going on.

Hi Hermann,
I'm not sure Rob is on Ubuntu, but anyway: If I remember right the "exit 0"
line comes after testing the "brltty" (or something like that) variable.
This variable is set in the script /etc/default/brltty. So the best way to
handle this condition is to edit that file and change the s
Hi
SEIKA is the cheapest braille display of the world which is made in China.
How about its quality?

Since it works for you on Windows, do you know how to trace USB I/O on that
platform? If not, perhaps soeone on this list can tell you how. Watching the
byte streams on Windows that work may y
