Hello,
here is one of the two patches by Tomas Janousek which actually
brought my attention to brltty.
Please keep Tomas cc'ed if there are questions about the patch.
BTW, for the mutt users here: if you use the 'L' -- list reply, the
reply should automatically be cc'ed to Tomas (who is not sub
Hi again,
attached please find another patch written by Tomas.
So please cc him in any replies.
Thanks,

Fix the calls to whatever->open to compile with newer glibc.
The glibc upstream has recently defined open as macro to check for incorrect
usage of the third parameter. This is

Thanks. It's been committed, although I took the liberty of modifying the new
line to the following:

Okay ... I can see what the problem is. I think I'd prefer it, though, if those
functions were renamed rather than cluttering the code with parenth

Yes, that'd be true.

No problem. I'm grateeful that you took the time to bring the p
Hello Keith,
You think you're a braille nerd? You should have seen the first time I wrote
this message! :-)
If we accept your contention that the e-a sign in Create is an error, then
NLS would have to revise virtually every one of its Web Braille books and
presumably at least the vast majority
Hi, Lee,
I don't disagree with you that I've seen create all over the place using the
ea sign. I do, however, maintain my stance that this is a common braille
error. Very common, as you proved with your stats below. However, would you
disagree that the use of the EA sign in create violates rule 42
Okay ... we'll try to be ready before Semtember 25. I think that should be
possible since the list of pending items that we really want to get in is
short. Please keep us in mind.
Nice to hear that RHEL4&5 have so few problem reports!
Can we discuss with you at some point how to make doing a brai
Is it possible that the term "primary syllable boundary" means transitioning
from an emphasized syllable to a non-emphasized one, but not vice versa?

Yes, if they're the experts then they should be doing it, especially since
we're talking about low-level stuff. Installers are much harder to debug at the
best of times. Fixing these p

They can use the TTY driver for this: they just need to plug a box with
a running minicom via serial. Then they should be a
Hi Keith,
I would agree that braille should be written according to _all_ the rules,
not some of them. I'm no expert on rule numbers and such, but I do remember
a rule that said a contraction can straddle a syllable boundary when going
from an unaccented syllable to an accented one, which was t
Hi, Lee,
The braille code does, in fact, state that you can use a contraction
crossing a sylable division from an accented sylable to an unaccented
sylable. This rule makes no mention of primary sylables, though. Caveat
(CAV - e - at) works with the EA sign as the first sylable, not the last, is

As it turns out, I haven't really been happy with the names open() and close()
anyway but there was never a good enough reason to make it worth renaming them.
Unless anyone objects, I think I'll use this opportunity to rename them to
construct() and destruct().

The open() and close() methods have now all been renamed to construct() and
destruct() respectively in our development stream.
Perhaps you could try building from our development stream (see the Source
Repository section on our Download page) just to ensure that there won't be any
surprises hidden
Hi,
I am not sure that this question really concerns brltty but
anyway maybe somebody can help me !
I try to plug my alva satellite 570 on the usb port and it does
not work.
More precisely when having plugged the braille device and set
the power on with the switch I issue the command :
