Hi,
Here is what I last have tried: plugged the serial cable that came with
the
braille note into the usb to serial cable and pluged the usb end into my
usb 2.0 port and the serial end (from the braille note serial cable) into
the braille note. (as someone suggested.)
Still no luck.

Serial is the default (for backward compatibility), so "-d ttyUSB0" will work.
The official way, however, is to prepend "serial:" to the device name, e.g.
"-d serial:ttyUSB0".

Yes. /dev/ttyUSB0 is its name as a serial port, not as a USB device. If you
had more than one serial to USB converter, they would be /dev/ttyUSB0
