Yes, that's expected (as explained in an earlier message).

Correct.

This time I was able to save all my settings except for changing the
contraction table to latex-access. I was trying to change that when
the display stopped working. There are no contraction table options in
the .prefs file

Although the menu allows you to change the contraction table (as well as a few
other tables), those particular changes aren't saved. The reason for this is
because they can also
Wow. I’d never fiddle with making changes to contraction tables. Make sure that
screen is started before BRLTTY. If so, and still no braille, I’d just
reinstall BRLTTY unless someone else makes another suggestion.

Cool, but now I broke it. I was trying to save the contraction table
as latex-access and somehow I now have no Braille output even after
restarting brltty and the machine.

Which settings are you trying to save, and how are you exiting the menu?

That's the old

The bindings for all models are available on-line. In your case, for example:
Go to: brltty.com
Click on: Documentation
Click on: Key Bi
Thanks. I'll fiddle with it some more. The contractions table is one
thing I'm trying to change.

You have to … hmm. If your display has a joystick or cursor control things,
press the part in the middle when you’re ready to save your preferences. I’ve
not gotten contractions table and text table to save though.

Cool! Now a related question: My menu settings never get saved even
though I changed save on exit to yes. What is the likely cause? And
there isn't a file in my etc directory called brltty-[anything].prefs.

Built in help specific for your display is found by pressing space with H. I
know, an amazing feature. I still use it sometimes.

Can someone point me to any documentation regarding BRLTTY commands
for a Brailliant BI 40? I just figured out how to enter the
preferences menu entirely through experimentation. Thanks.
