Today and yesterday a Brown Pelican has been seen in Dunkirk, New York. It
is usually seen near the west end of the far break wall. Also a first

May 20 - While counting Double-crested Cormorant nests on the islands

August 26 - I observed the Great Egret Colony above the Horseshoe Falls
from Three Sisters Islands, Goat Island, Niagara Falls, New York. At 10:50
AM, I could see as many as eight in active Great Egrets. At 11:00 AM one
had left, but I found two more to the far left (upstream) in front
On Sunday, August 28th, eight well seasoned BOS birders met at 7:00 am at
the Vermont and Busti staging area for the annual Buffalo Ornithological
Society August Field Trip for Shorebirds and Early Warblers. After crossing
the Peace Bridge, our more than competent leader, Doug Happ led us to
Peter Yeorg just called at 4:45 PM that he has an American Avocet at Kraft
Road in Fort Erie. Kraft Road goes south from east end of Dominion Road.
(Dominion Road runs parallel to the north shore of Lake Erie.)
Walk toward Lake Erie and west about a couple hundred yard. When he got to

March 31 - This morning at the heron colony on Weseloh Rocks (the
islands by the sunken barge) above the Horseshoe Fall, there were 5 GREAT
EGRETS
(two at nests) 28 Black-crowned Night-Herons, and 49 Double-crested
Cormorants (about 20 on nests). Also seen were 8 Lesser Black-backed Gulls
Today I studied the Niagara Falls Great Egret Colony from 10:55 to 11:38 AM
from Goat Island. This is the time when the light is best when observing
from Goat Island. Using 60X I was unable to locate Mrs. Kelly. (Mrs.
Kelly is a Great Egret with a satellite transmitter on it upper back th

immature. There were 449 cormorants on the rocks plus 55 nearby. On th
June 10 - A Trip to Rock Point Provincial Park tallied two immature Bald
Eagles, 7 Mute Swans (near Mohawk Island) 1100 Double-crested Cormorants
(mostly on Mohawk Island) 82 Bonaparte's Gulls, 22 Common Terns (including
10 fledglings) 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 5 Least Sandpipers.

Great Egrets this summer-autumn. Great Egrets were tagged earlier this month
at their nesting colony on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, near Collingwood,
