seen the Least Tern here this morning either.

This morning resulted in a very nice passerine fallout in Toronto's High
Park. Among the highlights was an adult female Dickcissel which I found in
an oak savannah regeneration area between Bloor St. W. and Spring Rd. just
east of Colborne Lodge Dr./High Park Ave. I
spending the night in an area
near the marsh with a couple of pairs of Blue-winged Teal - it was still
present when I left just before 10:00 p.m. No doubt it will likely be present
in either Oshawa Second Marsh or McLaughlin Bay at dawn.

discovery of the first Black Swift ever seen in Ontario. This article is

rain today scoping Lake Ontario off Thickson's Woods in the hope of finding
southern hurricane-deposited waifs in these remnants of Hurricane Isaac.

beyond, who may not have heard yet, will know of the passing on Saturday of
beloved birder and author Fred Bodsworth in his 94th year.
The following death notice appeared in yesterday's Toront
Ontbirds subscribers, There has been a very good continuous eastward movement
of birds past Thickson's Woods since dawn. About 9:15 I had a Leach's
Storm-Petrel fly past my place going west to east about 250 - 300 metres off
shore. The next best bird was an adult Laughing Gull seen circling

Hurricane Sandy has put on quite a nice birding show so far. After very calm
morning conditions, with light winds and no rain, at about 12:10 very brisk
south winds began for a couple of hours with a heavy bank of clouds and rain
coming across from the south side o
Ontbirds subscribers, Despite good morning coverage, there have been no further
hurricane waifs found along the lake off of Thickson's Woods today and very
little movement with the exception of Long-tailed Ducks and small numbers of
scoters. This afternoon there have been several mixed flock
Ontbirds subscribers, The male Eurasian Wigeon found this morning by Alfred
Adamo was still present this evening until sunset just to the west of Thickson
Point. It is still found within a mixed flock of several hundred Mallard,
Gadwall and American Wigeon. Also foraging near shore and on sh
Ontbirds subscribers, The female Western Tanager first found on December 16 at
Durham Court Park in Oshawa by Otto Peter and Jim McKnight during the Oshawa
CBC, was seen by many additional observers this afternoon from 2:20 p.m.
onward. In addition to feeding on buckthorn berries in the woo
Ontbirds subscribers, At 7:40 a.m., Dan Kaczynski and I saw an adult Neotropic
Cormorant in the bay off of Thickson's Woods. It was seen in direct comparison
with a group of 10 Double-crested Cormorants and scores of Red-breasted
Mergansers. The bird was barely longer or heavier looking than the
e best viewed from the north platform. To view the birds
from the east side of the marsh, one must park at the parking lot of Lynde
Shores Conservation Area (further east on the south side of Victoria St.) and
walk all

loafing there for a couple of hours just 100 metres off shore. We often have
small numbers of Long-tailed Ducks summering off the Whitby shore, but this is
by far the largest flock of summering birds that I have seen here.
