Given the time of year and recent reports of Dickcissels, not surprisingly I
came across a few singing Dickcissels today. These were at locations the
same as last year.
The first at 07:30 this morning was at the scrubby field outside of Point
Pelee Park near the SW corner of Concession C Road

On May 12 I posted – “ For first time since 2002 (...) on May 10, I have seen
Hooded Merganser female with 11 chicks (...).”
May 14 – 6 chicks , May 18 – 5, May 25 – 3, May 29 – 2, June 2 – only female,
June 3 and 4 – no Hooded Merganser on Topham Pond in Eglinton Flats!

I witnessed an actual predation of a black capped chicadee nest on our cottage
property at on stoney Lake at miday today. The nest cavity of the chicadee was
5 feet up in a small snag, tree species undetermined. Presumed hen sitting
and being visited and fed regularly by the male . I was
