Greetings: I just spoke to Rod. He will be transported back to Northumberland
Hills
Hospital either today or tomorrow. The doctors put in another stent last night.
He is tired but feeling much better.
The nurses and doctors told him he has tempted fate for the
Western Meadowlarks at the corner of Worthington #3 and Byrnes Rd.
Black-billed Magpies, Sedge Wren, 2 Sandill Cranes. Lots of Clay-coloured
Sparrows.

11a.m. 3 Sharp-tailed Grouse along the roadside, 3 Short-eared Owls along the
three line to the east. Sedge Wrens calling all along the road. A pair of

Talk about (sub)urban wildlife.
There is a pair of Trumpeter Swans in a small, stale-looking cloverleaf
catchment, or run-off, pond at the south-east quadrant of the intersection
between (toll) Highway 407, and 9th Line. They aren't visible from any
road. I was on foot, no binocs, but could s
9:30a.m.
The 3 lagoons on the first dirt road to the left off Government Rd north of Hwy
11 held approximately 60 Wilson's Phalaropes, Common Goldeneye with ducklings,
Northern Shovelers, Mallards, Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, one Black
Tern, Barn, Bank, Cliff and Northern Rough-winged S
Ontbirders, the bird IS still present! Near back mid section among dunlin, not
plovers.

I apologize for the late post, however I was unable to post this yesterday from
my 'smartphone' for reasons beyond my comprehension. We observed a Snowy Owl
yesterday at 1015am perched on a rock 100 meters offshore of Shoreline Avenue
near Spry Lake Road, Oliphant.

Don Barnett, Tim McCarthy and I spent 9.5 hours on site and only
recorded one flock of 9 Whimbrel (fly by at 7:00 am) and no other
migrant shorebirds were seen. Common Loons totaled 5. The watch
continues until 30 May but only very small number are expected.

I have been very surprised today by the numbers of Canada Geese around the
Townsend Sewage Lagoons. Groups of 10 to 50 birds are flying out from the
ponds and returning later. When you put the groups together you have a flock

Spent the day birding with Charlotte England at Tommy Thompson Park. As spring
migration slows down we focused on shore birds. We saw quite a few Dunlin,
assorted Sandpipers and Semi' Plovers. Also had beautiful pair of Ruddy
Turnstone. Ended the day on a high note with two Whimbrel who sat on
