Hello!
This may be a problem with your router ID. Have you set your router ID
correctly?

I'm using bird 1.6.8. I changed my bird config by adding bgp protocol to
it. Then run command "birdc config" to apply the config.
After that, the BGP session is not up:

Hi,
gns3 could be of help here, much easier to setup on your computer & after
which you'll have console access to your routers for configuration.

Hi all,
thank you for helping, but so I have to set up an entire network lab using
LXC and OpenvSwitch? Otherwise, how can I set up a router, AS number and
prefixes that a router wants to announce inside a VM?

For example, a route reflector's job is to reflect routes between its
client peers. Often a route reflector is not on the data path itself, and
so does not need to program those routes into its own box's kernel.

Hi,
It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Of course bird can
function without an instance of the kernel protocol. But in that case
it can not push any routes into the routing table of your os. If you
need those routes only to spread them for some other reasons then it
is probable that you
Hi all
You are really doing good research, which of course can be fixed between
two VMs. You can also do different IPs and ASN in the same block. Again, if
the IP and separate ASN of a different block can be done.

Hello guys!
I would like to ask you what would you think the better practice would
be: Can we remove totally the kernel protocol?
I thought no but we tested it and it works. Now we have on our linuxbox
set the static routes outside bird daemon, where we specify that the
caches we have are behind
To manage the AS number of each VM use the bgp protocol configuration of bird

That's fine. All I tried to point out is the guide is for the old branch
but still could help you with the basics.
If you read the guide you might figure out it teaches you as needed and
you could think of not using BIRD2 using your learning course and
upgrade later on.
Just a thought.

Hi Kees,
thanks for helping me, as I told I am new to Bird, so I directly installed
the latest version 2.07.

Hi Fabiano,
Not sure if someone (or some documentation) already pointed out this
guide: https://github.com/knorrie/network-examples/tree/master/bgp-intro
The guide uses BIRD 1.4.5 but I guess as long as you're not using BIRD2
you should be fine while taking your first steps.
In mean time, you co
Hi,
thanks everyone, I read the guide, but I didn't find how to put the two VMs
in two different ASs.
