It is the semicolon which ends a statement, not the closing curly
bracket of a block, which is why all blocks have to end in a semicolon
too.

By the way, have you ever considered using Redis as an in-memory
cache database? I’ve been thinking about offloading some of the TTL
expiry and cache management to Redis.
