Installation of XCode *and* removing the CPAN configuration file
* sudo rm /System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/CPAN/Config.pm
did the trick.
I'm now back in business.!!

http://connect.apple.com/
You have to download and install that toolset to get the compiler and
libraries. They do not come installed natively on the make.

It doesn't come with DBI, so I tried to instal it from CPAN...
And installing from CPAN I always started with Bundle::CPAN to get a
