you are right, it is not the best, but the easiest way to do that, because the
mail message contains all necessary informations (but sometimes the values a
not easy to read for non humans see Bug#931)
And it is not that easy to write a python plugin for that ;)

I've heard before that people are using the message resource to
integrate monitoring. However, I wonder, if this is the best approach.
