Not sure why you want to support LTO-6 tapes. Maybe you want to be able to
read old backups using the new system?
As others have said, definitely recommend using LTO-8 or LTO-9.

older DLT unit from Digitial: a TL891 bought off ebay as-in, which
turned out to be in perfect working order.
