If it matters to anyone, I use a PHP script as my mail program to
capture stdin and send it to the admins, while a nicer looking email
is sent to our clients. This way I can link my bacula database with
table full of client information such email addresses and proper
nouns.

I've spent some of my free time in the last couple of weeks working on
a reporting system for bacula. It uses JasperReports so by necessity
it is written in Java. The general idea is that the reporter is
executed from administrative jobs and the generated PDF is sent to
