Once a year, I need to create a full backup that will be stored
off-site. This backup will not be readily available for normal
restores. The obvious approach would be to delete that backup (and
its volumes) from the catalog so they will not be considered when
performing future backups/restores.

That did it, thanks!

I just hooked up my shiny new Powervault 124T with dual magazines to
an Ubuntu 10.04 server via SAS. For some reason, mtx can only see the

I'm doing disk-to-disk backups. Since backup sets fluctuate in size
quite a bit, it's hard to tell how many volumes may be available to be
recycled. This makes it difficult to tell when I need to add
additional disks. As it stands, I may have hit a peak in backup size
several months ago and may

Oy vey!
I am even as we speak working on implementing some Python code to
handle volume labeling!
The example DirStartup.py shows an example NewVolume method that just
assigns a generated volume name to job.VolumeName. Is that all that's
needed for the system to label a new volume? Does it just label a new
volume using the defaults defined in bacula-dir.conf?
Thanks!

I feel like I'm missing something:
If I'm doing all of my backups to disk, is there an advantage to
maintaining three distinct pools?
Thanks!
