Hi Guys;
Does anyone knows when the bacula binaries for major linux distributions will
be available. I'm planning to upgrade Bacula to the lastes version, but I will
want to skip the compilation process.

The Enterprise version compresses network traffic, but this feature is
not yet in the community version.

I suggest turning debug on in the sd to see what it is doing:
E.g. from bconsole, use
setdebug level=1000 trace=1 sd
and it will write a .trace file into the working directory.
