Thank you for the reply Ana, but if you read my comments again, you'll see that I've checked the size and see no problem, I even changed the /tmp dir of mysql to "/tmp/ram" using a 2GB tmpfs. Also the mysqldump command works so my guess is that its not the /tmp/ dir! The dir the backup goes to is
