Hello,
I noticed that running "make_catalog_backup.pl" with a PostgreSQL
database runs "pg_dump -c" (i. e. without specifying a database),
which results in a full dump of the whole DB server, including far
more than the Bacula catalog.
Is this a bug, or intentional? If the latter, what is the ra

I wrote myself a little script for initializing the cassettes before
labeling new - see attached lines
Thanks Alan
re: Cleaning tapes are abrasive. Don't use them unless the drive asks for
them. LTO drives and media have internal head and path wiper mechanisms
which keep things under control under normal circumstances - cleaning
tapes are a last resort.
Noted. Will do so only when drive asks from
FWIW: I had similar problems with a large batch of LTO5 tapes recently.
Discussion with the tech support guys at Overland brought out the
information that sometimes they see this on new tapes due to dust
contamination during assembly (or insufficient removal of loose

Nothing.
It's only called when you run the "query" command and if query.sql is
missing it just complains about it.

It would seem the problem resolved itself.
All our tapes are now getting full at 410GB and over. No tape is under 400GB so
far (about 10 of them swapped around). Do not believe it was tape drive itself.
All we've done to the machine was regular ubuntu upgrades and machine restarts.

BTW, Here is a link about testing and customizing the mtx-changer script:
http://www.freebsddiary.org/tape-library.php
It is for FreeBSD but even for linux the procedure will be similar
even though device names will be different.

I expect you need to test the functionality of mtx directly and edit
the file /usr/libexec/bacula/mtx-changer to make sure the load command
and other mtx-changer commands are working.

I had seen the news about the enterprise binaries for windows, need
them, is not to expensive no issue, my question is simple:
Once I start using the windows binaries, I need to contact them for
support or this list is still open for help for windows clients?
Thanks!!!
Good to know.
Does this mean when I want to restore in the future, I will need to make sure
both disks are mounted at the same time?
Or will bacula let me know which magazine I need and I will mount the
respective disk and update slots will do the rest?
Thanks again.

Hi,
I am setting up a dual usb sata device vchanger with bacula and had a

Autochanger {
Name = sata-changer
Device = sata-changer-drive-0
Device = sata-changer-drive-1
Changer Command = "/usr/local/bin/vchanger %c %o %S %a %d"

I really hate it when upgrading port overwrites
"/usr/local/share/bacula/query.sql" with a dummy file.
Could we have sample-query.sql as in source and leave
thanks a lot for your answer :)
I missed the part of the documentation that explain type change of the
copy job: "the moment the primary backup expires the copy gets upgraded
to a normal Backup Job and its available for restore."
that's all I needed, thank you.

Hi,
last night my bacula backups end with some errors, caused by the following
message:
08-Jan 20:00 bacula01-sd JobId 70123: End of Volume "VolD-6643" at 0:0 on
device "DiskStorD" (/backup/diskstore04). Write of 207 bytes got -1.
