I did a quick test in a virtual machine and discovered the following:
issuing something like
prune jobs client=... yes
in bconsole leaves always at least one full backup job (the newest) in
the catalog, even if it could be pruned because it is much older than
the retention period.

Here's the software I am using for this:
I had bacula 2.4.4 running on my Mac, which I am using as my director and
as my storage daemon (I have an external USB drive sticking off of it just
for backups).
