Dear Bacula Users,
Sorry, this is lengthy. I have several questions. Any question answered
is much appreciated. :)
I am now running bacula 2.4.2 (made from source) and mysql 5.0.24-standard
on RHEL4 (64 bit)
I use bacula for archiving - ie. once-only, keep-forever backups of large
files. I
Hi Richard,
thanks for your comments.
I edited the corresponding line in /usr/lib/bacula/dvd-handler.
Unforutnately it didn't make a difference. On the other hand I could NOT
see that the disc was actually being ejected after the first part.
Should the tray have opened?
Maybe I need to edit so
If you are thinking of doing it just before application upgrades or the
like, how about using VMWare's own snapshot functionality? They
implemented it for that exact purpose.

Backing up virtual machines while powered on is probably not a great
idea, but there are good alternatives:
- In your ClientRunBeforeJob script, power down the VM, and power it
back up after the backup is done. Alternatively, suspend and resume the VM.
I used to take this approach in my pre-bac
This isn't excatly a Bacula-related issue, but has anyone experiences how
consistent bacups can be achieved if I back up a linux host running a VMware
Server with some of the virtual machines "powered on"? Will the result be
something total garbage, or something that can reasonably succesfully be

Make sure your installation recides on an lvm volume that has sufficient
space for doing a snapshot. Then do the snapshot in a RunBefore and
remove it in a RunAfter.
This should provide you with "no" downtime. The state of
Hi,
I am trying to come up with a better way to back up my Scalix mail
server. Scalix has a couple of suggestions for backing up.
Current solution:
- shut down mail server (in ClientRunBeforeJob)
- back up all files in the mail store directory
- restart mail server (in Client Run After Job)
Th
Hi,
I'll add some comments here I cannot guarantee that they all apply to
2.4.x because I'm still using 2.2.x and haven't been tracking
development that closely for well over a year. That said I did have DVD
writing working and many of the errors that you report do look familiar.
