[Ayatana] Promoting the LTS

2010-04-02 Thread Nicholas Ipsen(Sephiroth_VII)
I think we should use the website redesign as an opportunity to promote the LTS over the regular releases. We get a lot of complaints from new users in the forums, who complain that the standard releases aren't stable enough for them. I think promoting the LTS more would alleviate this problem. At

Reading the Wiki, it sounds a lot like stability *is *the goal of an LTS. >From the Ubuntu Wiki(I've added the red for emphasis): Release Plan Details > >1. > >We are more conservative in our package merge with Debian, >auto-synching with Debian *testing*, instead of Debian unstable.

[Ayatana] The program shortcuts in the panel look out of place

2010-04-03 Thread Nicholas Ipsen(Sephiroth_VII)
Since Karmic, but especially now in Lucid, the Firefox, Evolution, and Help icons are starting to look out of place, with every other icon in Lucid's panel being monochrome, unless they need attention. It wasn't this obvious in Karmic, mostly because the Ubuntu Icon still had color: However, now th

While I'm all for innovation and expanding the use of indicator-applets, I don't think this tray would be useful for fx Brasero or Update Manager. Where I do see this being useful is for large file transfers in Nautilus, torrent-transfers in Transmission, and, of course, Firefox. I think a menu li

I think we should coordinate this with Gnome, and ask them whether they're going to do anything with that space in Gnome Shell. It would be stupid to design something awesome, then realise that Shell uses that space for a essential part of its functionality. Nicholas Ipsen > > ___

I think this has some potential. We could at the very least give it a test run during the maverick alphas. On 22 Apr 2010 18:50, "Frederik Nnaji" wrote: On Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 18:35, Diego Moya wrote: >> It makes the accidental hove... i can imagine a proficient hacker would not care about too

This sounds very interesting! It could be nice to have it implemented as early as possible in the 10.10 testing period, to identify problems faster. Maybe it could be the default behavior in the desktop version as well, for the duration of the alphas, to make sure it undergoes as much testing as p

I think it'd be better to keep the ordering static and alphabetical, in order to make it easier for users to establish muscle memory of how to use the menu. Nicholas Ipsen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ayatana Post to : ayatana@lists.launc

Yes, there is one use-case you're missing. If you've started a game(windowed), and, after you start playing, you want to listen to some music instead of the game's soundtrack. Instead of navigating a complex menu, you simply open the Sound Indicator and mute the game. Perhaps this would be most use

Besides, this will also empower the user to do stuff with it we probably can't imagine, or maybe even see the point of. In short, it's certainly useful for me, and I'm sure others use this functionality as well. Nicholas Ipsen ___ Mailing list: https://l
