Plasma is the desktop shell for KDE, so in order to use the KDE apps
without it, you have to logout of KDE, log in in Unity and select the
default apps in your unity session to be the KDE ones - Dolphin, kate
etc... However i would not recommend that, because of two reasons:

I'm using Kubuntu now. It works well for me, excepting a Plasma. It is
constantly crashing. On my netbook it wastes some screen space because of
bottom panel. So, it is possible to use Unity (2D or 3D) with KDE environment?
